Playstation 3 slim has been confirmed!

Sony has announced that the 120GB playstation 3 slim will be available in september for $299. Also the 80GB and 160GB models have price dropped by $100 to $299 and $399 each. There was no mention of ps2 compatability in the slim model.

Update:
There will also be a 250gb version of the slim retailing for $349 later this year.
